Dr. Cook

Dr. Cook

Veterinarian

Dr. Cook came to veterinary medicine later in life after volunteering at animal shelters in Idaho. “After years in the semiconductor industry I found that working with animals was much more rewarding than robotics.” Dr. Cook graduated from Washington State University veterinary school in 2012 and practiced in Idaho and Wyoming for 10 years before moving to Pahrump to be closer to family. Dr. Cook enjoys spending his time off exploring the desert and mountains surrounding Pahrump with his three rescue dogs Rose, Sophie, and Sandy. Dr. Cook truly enjoys working with the people and animals here in southern Nevada and looks forward to seeing you and your pets!

I am a “true” Nevadan. Born in Elko, Nevada, way up in the colder northern part of the state, as the grandson of a cattleman who was deep into that industry and a father who was an avid hunter, conservationist, and outdoorsman. Between those two and my avid horsewoman mother, I was always bound to do something animal oriented with my life. At a very young age, I was volunteering at veterinary hospitals in Twin Falls, Idaho, with small animals and an equine veterinarian. I received my undergraduate degree (BS) from the University of Idaho and then went on to obtain my veterinary degree (DVM) and Master’s Degree from Washington State University. From school to the conservation world and One Health (before that was even the term used) was second nature and I ended up with stints in Oregon, Washington, South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia. I spent a large portion of my career training veterinarians and students from around the globe. Most of my small animal veterinary experience has come from working at emergency and referral practices around the USA, as I am licensed in 11 states and practiced as a relief and locum veterinarian for many years. Since my wife Beth and I decided to move back West and escape the glacial winters of the Midwest, the Vegas area seemed perfect and to be able to work in a very comfortable, easy to adjust to small town like Pahrump is a perfect progression in an ever-transforming career. Beth, and I live on the Northwest corner of Vegas, with a beautiful, short drive to Pahrump with our two pit bulls, Ngwedi (Moonlight) and “Therapy Dog” Naledi (Star). I am excited to be near all the great automotive opportunities in Vegas and Pahrump and am most pleased to be here!

Shalay's Bio
I was raised in East Texas for about 11 years, where my love for farming began. My whole life, I’ve been surrounded by animals, from cats, dogs, ferrets, chinchillas, and now two goats and chickens. I couldn’t imagine a life without furry companions. I graduated high school in 2021 and moved back to Nevada, where I was lucky enough to begin my career in veterinary medicine. I look forward to graduating as a veterinary technician someday and helping as many animals as possible.
